During the summer it is wonderful to eat outdoors, as long as this happens without wasps and other unwanted insects. If a vespa decides to join the party, in fact, a pleasant lunch can soon turn into a whirlwind of frenetic blows and jumps. So let’s see how to prevent the arrival of these annoying insects and enjoy meals in the garden in peace.
AN OUTDOOR LUNCH WITHOUT VESPE
Firstly, it is good to know that wasps are not only attracted to sugary foods and drinks. These insects are in fact equally likely to taste other foods such as meat and sausages. The best method for outdoor dining without wasps is to keep food as covered as possible. No matter how beautiful a laid table is, if we’re in the garden at the end of the summer, it’s not a good idea. It is in this period that the larvae of the wasps were well nourished by the adults of the colony who therefore have less to do. This is the moment when they tend to annoy us more.
HOW TO GET THE GARDEN WITHOUT VESPE
In addition to keeping food covered before meals, it is also good to cover the trays immediately after serving the diners. Wasps in this way will have less chance to smell them and be attracted to them. Even placing a net cloche on food is better than nothing. Even if the wasps will be able to detect what is underneath, they will not be able to reach it and will eventually surrender.
HOW TO WORK IN THE PRESENCE OF VESPE
If, however, some unwanted wasps tend to annoy us, it is always better to stand still than to stir. Moving your arms and using napkins to try to crush insects will only increase the rage of the wasp and the risk of it stinging. Finally, we remember that the wasps love teamwork. To avoid being bothered by an entire swarm, it will be essential to isolate the first copy of the attack. Let’s catch it under a cup or a glass and leave it there. Then proceed to eliminate or at least cover and hide their source of attraction.
